Your Council

Co-Presidents

I am in my fourth year here at Queen’s University. I major in Physical Geography and I am currently completing my GIS certificate. In addition to dancing, singing, and sushi-eating, I enjoy spending time outdoors, especially in the High Arctic! This past summer, I was fortunate enough to accompany Queen’s Geography professors and graduate students as a research assistant on a remote field camp on Melville Island.

I am ecstatic to be one of your Co-Presidents and I can’t wait to see you at our events this year!

Isolina Zazzara-Yu
Laurel Sharp

Hi there! My name is Laurel and I am a fourth year human geography student. As a Human Geography student, I am really interested in Urban Planning as well as Historical Geography and hope to do a Master’s of Planning next year (hopefully at SURP!). This is my second year on the Geography and Planning Council and I am very excited to show you what we have planned for the year.

Marketing and Communications Director
Siobhan McCarter
queens geography DSC Siobhan McCarter

I am a fifth year student in Physical Geography and an ex-commerce student. I spent the past summer doing research in the EVEX lab, and I am continuing this research in my senior thesis. I am the Marketing and Communications Director, and my responsibilities include writing weekly newsletters, running the social media pages, maintainance of the DSC website, and, of course, marketing all DSC events. When I am not preoccupied with geography quizzes on Sporcle, I am often out for a run, manaically devouring sushi, baking cookies, or listening to one of my many strange music genres.

I look forward to effectively marketing and communicating with the Geography community this year!

GIs Liasons
Peter Crawford

I am a fifth-year Queen’s student, finishing my fourth year in Physical Geography. I’ve been interested in GIS since second year and am currently finishing the last few requirements for my GIS certificate, along with an undergraduate thesis involving air photo interpretation of a river system. As one of two GIS liaisons in the DSC, I am responsible for planning GIS-focused events for students as well as helping students with GIS questions and issues in our regular GIS help nights.

Hey, my name is Eric Daechsel and I am one of the GIS Liaisons. I am majoring in physical geography, minoring in environmental studies and I'm getting my GIS certificate. My dream is to live in Australia, so I'm applying to graduate schools there for my Masters in GIS/geospatial science. Peter and I run the GIS help sessions, but even if you don't need help, just come and talk to me about GIS because it's basically all I know now.

Academics commissioners
Monica DeVidi

I’m a second year Human Geography major and I am one of the Academics Commissioners for this year's DSC. I’m really excited to be part of such a great group of people planning events for this awesome department! I’m a passionate environmentalist who rejects non-reusable plastic water bottles and will frequently be seen wearing Birks and socks. When I’m not struggling with geomorphology homework, I enjoy camping, travelling, and eating entire tubes of Pillsbury cookie dough.

I’m looking forward to a great year with the Geography and Planning Department!

Bridget Rusk

I am a fourth year Physical Geography student and one of your Academic Commissioners for the 2015-2016 year. I spent the summer in the Arctic and am now doing my undergraduate thesis in the FABrECC lab. Recognizable as a highland dancer at football games, I am also gaining stardom as an amateur karaoke sensation. Upon graduation, I plan on pursuing my life long dream of swimming with a whale.
